Political scientist Eldar Namazov arrested for 30 minutes

Eldar Namazov, president of the Public Forum "For the sake of Azerbaijan", was detained by police officers and brought to the Sabail Department of Internal Affairs at about 03:00 p.m. on December 22, as reported by human rights activist Arzu Abdullayeva.

Eldar Namazov and people, who accompanied him, were at a meeting with local residents of the Bibi-Eybat settlement, presenting them several sheep on occassion of Gurban Bayramy.

It should be reminded that the said place had been suggested to the Committee for Protection of Freedom of Speech for conduction of a meeting, but the committee members considered it not suitable for such event.

However, E.Namazov decided to visit the local residents of Bibi-Eybat and congratulate them, as had been promised a few days before.

On the way back, 3 cars with Eldar Namazov, Eldaniz Guliyev and other people were detained by two police cars. The police officers got on Namazov's car and brought him to the Sabail district police station, where he was said that Gurban bayramy was over and he did not have a right to carry sheep to Bibi-Eybat.

The detained people were released in about 30 minutes.
