17 May 2007 [16:19] - TODAY.AZ
Today preliminary court proceeding on criminal case on ex-economic development minister Farhad Aliyev, his brother Rafig Aliyev, former president of Azpetrol Group of Companies and 17 more defendants accused of corruption continued at Court of Grave Crimes.

Fuad Agayev, defense lawyer for Rafig Aliyev petitioned for ending the criminal case and sending the case to General Prosecutors' Office.

Rafig Aliyev said that the opinion about his refusing to give testimony is wrong. He noted that he several times wanted to give testimony, but the General Prosecutor's Office was not interested in it.

Azpetrol president said there were a lot of shortcomings in the investigation and expert judgment was falsified. The defendant said that the accusation about his misappropriating 76,400 vouchers is groundless.

"I am ready to be in jail for 15 years, but these people are innocent release them," Rafig Aliyev said.

He said that he never evaded taxes and wanted experts to be invited from Taxes Ministry to investigate it.

"For me evading taxes means robbing of the National Bank," he said.

Alimerdan Sadigov, another lawyer for Rafig Aliyev petitioned for ending the criminal case launched on his defendant. Another petition was connected with dropping illegal evidences from the criminal case materials.
