Presidential pardon expected on Independence Day

Human rights defender Chingiz Ganizadeh told the APA presidential pardon is expected to be the next humanist step taken by the head of state.

"This pardon will solve the political prisoner problem in Azerbaijan. The parliament will adopt amnesty law soon. I think it will be adopted by 12 November - Constitution Day," he said.

Ganizade also said the working group composed of government representatives and human rights defenders will meet in September.

The Pardon Commission member, parliamentarian Melahet Hasanova told the APA that pardon decree depends on the President’s will. The Commission is analyzing the appeals.
