Bolton's words testify development of US-Azerbaijan relations: analyst

The positive opinion of the US President's National Security Adviser John Bolton about the visit to Azerbaijan, which he expressed on his Twitter account, and the expression of gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev during their meeting can be regarded as the attitude of the US and the West towards Azerbaijan as a whole, Political Analyst and Chief Editor of the SES newspaper Bahruz Guliyev told Trend.

He said it is no coincidence that Bolton rated relations with Azerbaijan as a high priority and stressed that Azerbaijan is the main partner of the United States.

"In relations between the United States and Azerbaijan, the priority has always been given to the implementation of global economic projects, security in the region and other issues. The consultations conducted on the background of mutual relations, the diplomatic exchanges prove this," the analyst said.

In his opinion, Bolton as a whole does not deny that he regards relations with Azerbaijan as the most favorable relations in the post-Soviet area, and, in this context, the provision of energy security and the combat against international terrorism remain priority issues.

"Of course, all these further enhance the prestige of the country in the region, give impetus to the implementation of certain tasks. This shows once again the high rating of Azerbaijan in the world," Guliyev added.

He also said that before Bolton’s visit to Azerbaijan, a number of organizations demanded that he touch on the subject of “violation” of human rights and freedoms. However, Bolton did not consider such unnecessary and unsubstantiated claims at all.

“Because Bolton is well aware of the reforms carried out in all spheres in Azerbaijan, in particular he knows that the democratization process is at a high level in Azerbaijan. We saw that Bolton, in general, was not interested in meeting with the “leaders” of the so-called opposition. This step of the official representative of the United States means a lack of interest of the West in the opposition," Guliyev said.

He noted that Bolton's statements, as well as his post on the social network show that the US ruling circles attach importance to strengthening international relations with Azerbaijan.

“More precisely, these factors against the backdrop of the US-Azerbaijan relations clearly demonstrate that the political views of that country have a more progressive basis. Thus, the words of Bolton can be regarded as a manifestation of the development of relations between the US and Azerbaijan,” the analyst added.
