Azerbaijan's natural gas reserves will be sufficient for at least 100 years for the country itself and for the states that benefit from this cooperation, said Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev during the official reception on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR).

"Despite this, we should yet look ahead. We must ensure a long-term, sustainable development strategy for the country. We have very clear mind and views on this issue," the head of state said.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that currently, great work is underway on the Southern Gas Corridor project and it will be officially opened May 29. "This is our great historical victory."

"We have linked the seas with oil and gas pipelines. For the first time in history, the Caspian Sea was connected to the Black and Mediterranean seas by oil pipelines. Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum and Baku-Supsa oil and gas pipelines were built on our initiative,” the head of state said.

President Aliyev pointed out that in terms of energy security Azerbaijan has become an important country not only in the region, but also on a global scale.

The head of state also spoke about the transport projects being implemented by Azerbaijan.

"By creating transport infrastructure, we have united the continents. Azerbaijan, which has no access to the open sea, is today turning into one of the transport centers of the world. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad, initiated by us, other infrastructure projects, the launch of the Alat port, the largest port of the Caspian Sea, the steps towards the creation of the North-South transport corridor, pursue one goal: to turn Azerbaijan into one of the transport centers of the world. Great work was carried out to this end. This is the factor strengthening the independence. This is the factor developing the non-oil sector. We are very seriously engaged in this issue,” said President Aliyev.

“Our natural resources will be depleted sooner or later. Despite the fact that the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli contract has been extended to 2050, this contract will be in force at least until that period. I am fully confident that after 2050 there will be enough oil reserves in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli", President Aliyev added.
