The joint commission on demarcation of the state border between Azerbaijan and Russia has so far adopted all normative legal documents, Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov said on December 12.

He noted currently the commission is working on establishing border crossing points and other relevant facilities in accordance with the agreed plan.

“The work will continue next year, meetings are held regularly in this regard,” Khalafov added.

The length of the Azerbaijan-Russia border is 327.6 kilometers on the mainland and 22.4 kilometers in the Caspian Sea. The boundary is set by the agreement signed in Baku on October 3, 2010.

The border demarcation between Azerbaijan and Russia is carried out in accordance with the agreement on the delimitation of borders by the parties. Russia remains at the moment the only neighboring country with which Azerbaijan has fully completed the process of delimitation.

Khalafov also said delimitation of borders with Georgia is not over yet.

“Negotiations on delimitation are still going on, probably we will intensify talks with Georgia starting early 2018,” the deputy minister noted.

Commenting on the issue of delaying delimitation of borders with Georgia, he said this is a long-term process: “Because every area is being studied for months, it is a natural process.”

The length of the state border between Azerbaijan and Georgia is 480 kilometers. The relevant state commissions of the two countries have already agreed on the most part of the borderline.
