Azerbaijan and Russia are planning to hold a second meeting in the framework of negotiations on border demarcation.

The fifth meeting of the joint commission on demarcation of the state border between Azerbaijan and Russia is planned for the autumn in Moscow, a diplomatic source told Trend on July 27.

The meeting will discuss the progress with the implementation of the action plan of the Azerbaijani-Russian demarcation commission.

The Azerbaijani delegation is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister, Chairman of the State Commission on demarcation of the state border between Azerbaijan and Russia Khalaf Khalafov, while the Russian delegation is led by Vadim Postnov, Co-Chair of the Azerbaijan-Russia joint Commission on demarcation.

The previous meeting was held  in Baku this April. Following the meeting, the sides signed a protocol, which was attached with the action plan for 2017 of the commission. Additionally, the parties signed an instruction about the procedure of drawing up a protocol describing the passing of the state border between Azerbaijan and Russia.

Azerbaijan is bound by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia to the west, Iran to the south, and Turkey to the south west.

The length of the Azerbaijan–Russia border is 327.6 kilometers on the mainland and 22.4 kilometers in the Caspian sea. The boundary is set by the agreement signed in Baku on October 3, 2010.

The border demarcation between Azerbaijan and Russia is carried out in accordance with the agreement on the delimitation of borders by the parties. Russia remains at the moment the only neighboring country with which Azerbaijan has fully completed the process of delimitation.
