Armenian troops breach ceasefire 125 times throughout the day

The Armenian armed units shattered ceasefire with Azerbaijan a total of 125 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported on March 29.

The Armenian armed forces, stationed in Armenia`s Barekamavan, Dovekh villages and nameless hills in Noyemberyan district, Chinari village in Berd district subjected to fire the positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces located in Kamarli and Gaymagli villages in Gazakh district, Munjuglu village in Tovuz district.

The ceasefire was also violated in Goyarkh and Chilaburt villages in Tartar district, Bash Garvand and Merzili villages in Aghdam district, Gorgan, Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Veyselli and Garakhanbayli villages in Fuzuli district, Kuropatkino village in Khojavand district, Mehdili village in Jabrayil district as well as nameless hills in Tartar, Goranboy, Jabrayil, Khojavand and Fuzuli districts.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
