ISESCO: Mehriban Aliyeva becoming First VP shows high status of Azerbaijani women

The appointment of First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva as First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan reflects the high status that Azerbaijani women enjoy in an open and ever-evolving society, said Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri in an exclusive interview with Trend.

“It also confirms the exceptional personality of the first lady who has the competence, abilities and knowledge that qualify her to serve and promote society, and support the wise policy His Excellency the President of the Republic, Ilham Aliyev adopts in leading his country towards more progress and prosperity,” noted Altwaijri.

The director general said that the Azerbaijani society is fully aware of the great efforts Mehriban Aliyeva made along the path towards balanced development, leading this prosperous country towards more progress to achieve comprehensive sustainable development.

The first lady has, over the past years, demonstrated outstanding skills and high abilities in administration and management as head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and her support for Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, to shoulder his weighty responsibilities and carry out his presidential mandate, noted the ISESCO head.

“Now it is high time she took on her new duty to join the President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev in carrying out the noble missions to sustain growth and pursue further national goals for the Azerbaijani people,” he added.

“I have known Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva for several years, since the Executive Council of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) adopted a decision appointing her as ISESCO goodwill Ambassador. Indeed, each time I meet with Her Excellency in Baku, I discover her strong character traits, high qualifications, refined knowledge, open vision focused on modern times and constant eagerness to advance peace, concord and coexistence among cultures and civilizations,” noted ISESCO director general.

“I can say that this honorable lady, fully conscious of her human mission, is the best support for the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and that her appointment as First Vice-President is a wise and timely decision,” said Altwaijri.

“On this auspicious occasion, I congratulate Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Vice-President, as well as the people of Azerbaijan, wishing her every success in this noble mission,” added ISESCO head.

President Ilham Aliyev signed an order appointing Mehriban Aliyeva as First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on February 21.
