An Azerbaijani soldier fell victim to an Armenian bullet during the shelling of the country’s positions by Armenian armed forces.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that soldier Khanoghlan Khalilov was killed on February 22. The Ministry expressed condolences to the family of the soldier.

Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces prevented another act of sabotage of Armenia in the contact line on February 21.

The Defense Ministry reported that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces carried out pre-emptive strikes on the Armenian positions, due to which the enemy forces, suffering heavy losses, was forced to retreat.

Overall, Armenian troops have 42 times violated the ceasefire in various directions along the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops throughout the day.

The Armenian side constantly violates truce and targets Azerbaijani soldiers and even civilians ever since the ceasefire agreement was reached between the parties to the conflict.

Armenia broke out a lengthy war against Azerbaijan laying territorial claims on its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts.
