Azerbaijan, Pakistan discuss prospects of relations

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Alizade has met members of Pakistani National Assembly’s friendship group with the country, Azertac reported.

The officials expressed their confidence over the current state of friendly and relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. The parties stressed the importance of expanding relations between the inter-parliamentary groups.

The sides had discussions on holding fruitful projects in the fields of economy, culture and science.

Members of Pakistan-Azerbaijan friendship group mentioned their participation in various forums and conferences in Baku where they witnessed progress of the country.

Pakistan became the second country after Turkey which recognized the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991. The diplomatic relations between two countries were established on June 9, 1992. 

Islamabad backed Azerbaijan during and after the Nagorno-Karabakh War and it is the only country that does not recognize Armenia. Pakistan also adopted a resolution strongly condemning the genocide against the civilian population of Khojaly, which was committed by Armenian armed forces.
