Qatar's National Day celebrated in Baku

Qatar’s national holiday was celebrated in Baku with an official reception organized by the country`s Embassy on December 13.

Qatar National Day, also known as Founder's Day, is celebrated on December 18 marking the date in 1878 when Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani rallied the tribes of the peninsula into a unified people..

Ambassador Yusif bin Hasan Yusif al-Sai, opening the event, spoke about the development path of his country, hailed the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Qatar in political, economic and cultural fields.

The diplomat said the development of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Qatar was strongly promoted after the visit of the Emir of Qatar to Azerbaijan that contributed to enhancing bilateral relationship even further.

The ambassador expressed confidence that the Azerbaijan-Qatar ties would continue to develop in the fields of economy, culture and education in the years ahead.

Azerbaijani Minister of Emergencies Kamaladdin Heydarov congratulated the people of Qatar on behalf of the Azerbaijani people.

Heydarov said the reciprocal visits of state officials of both countries gave impetus to expansion of the friendly ties between the two countries and both states support each other also on the international arena.

The event was attended by Azerbaijani state and government officials, MPs, ambassadors, as well as public figures.

Azerbaijan and Qatar, the two energy-rich countries located in the South Caucasus and the Middle East regions, respectively, have good friendly relations.

Azerbaijan and Qatar, which established diplomatic relations in September 1994, enjoy significant prospects for cooperating in the tourism, education, agriculture, investment making, ICT and cargo transportation sectors.

Azerbaijan, which eyes the tourism sector as one of the promising fields in terms of increasing the budget revenues, focuses on attracting tourists from world countries. Given the fact that Azerbaijan and Qatar has a simplified visa regime, Baku is interested in more close relations with Qatar in the tourism sector.
