Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Baku with a diplomatic visit on December 13.

A guard of honor was arranged for the Israeli PM at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport decorated with the national flags of Azerbaijan and Israel.

Benjamin Netanyahu and his spouse Sara Netanyahu were welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov and other officials.

Netanyahu will meet with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev in the presidential Zagulba Palace in Baku, where agreements will be signed – by Environmental Protection, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin – on standardization, double taxation and agricultural cooperation.

The Prime Minister will pay respects to fallen soldiers and lay a wreath at the memorial. He will then visit the 'Or Avner' Jewish education complex, along with Azerbaijan Education Minister Mikhayil Jabbarov, and meet with members of the local Jewish community.

"Today I am leaving on a two-day visit to two important countries, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan,” Netanyahu said before leaving his country, the PM's office reported.

“These are two large and significant countries in the Islamic world and our goal is to strengthen diplomatic, security and economic relations with them. In complete contrast to what is heard from time to time, not only is Israel not suffering from diplomatic isolation, Israel is a country that is coming back. These countries want very much to strengthen ties with Israel and following the strengthening of our relations with the major powers of Asia, with countries in Africa and with countries in Latin America, now come ties with important countries in the Islamic world.”
