Azerbaijan, Malta mull bilateral cooperation

Caspian’s Azerbaijan and Mediterranean’s tiny island country Malta have discussed the development of bilateral cooperation.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received on April 27 Joseph Muscat, the prime minister of Malta, who is on visit to Baku, AzerTac news agency reported.

President Aliyev highlighted successfully developing bilateral relations, expressing hope that cooperation between the two countries would be continued.

He said Muscat`s last visit to Azerbaijan created a good potential to develop relations in various fields, particularly in political, economic, investment making, tourism and other spheres.

Muscat, for his part, said his country was interested in developing relations with Azerbaijan. He said he witnessed rapid development processes in Azerbaijan, adding Europe should give objective assessment to these positive processes.

The sides stressed the importance of the Baku-hosted third Global Shared Societies Forum, to be held on April 27-30.

The 3rd Global Shared Societies Forum will be held with the support of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora and will be organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center. It is expected that the event will be attended by up to 2,000 well-known public and political figures from 55 countries, former and current heads of states and governments.

The sides exchanged views on the development of cooperation between the two countries on various fronts, as well as regional processes and other issues of mutual interest.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Malta was established in January 1995. In 2011, Vaqif Sadiqov, Azerbaijan’s ambassador in Italy appointed as country’s ambassador to Malta.
