Armenian armed forces violate ceasefire with Azerbaijan over 100 times for 2 days

Over the past 24 hours, the Armenian armed forces 55 times violated the ceasefire on various parts of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan said Dec. 15.

Armenian armed forces located in the village of Chinari, Mosesgeh and Aygepar of Armenia’s Berd district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces in the villages of Agbulag and Alibayli in the Tovuz district.

Armenian armed forces located in the villages of Berkaber and Paravakar of Armenia’s Ijavan district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces in the village of Kehnegishlag in the Agstafa district and the village of Gizilhajili in the Gazakh district.

Azerbaijani positions were also fired at from positions near the villages of Yusifjanli, Javahirli, Shikhlar, Marzili, Sarijali, Kengerli, Shuraabad, Garagashli of Aghdam, Kuropatkino of Khojavand, Horadiz, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Veysalli of Fuzuli districts.

Aside from that, the Azerbaijani armed forces were fired at from the positions on nameless heights in the districts of Geranboy, Fuzuli and Khojavand.

As of Dec.14, the Armenian armed forces violated the ceasefire 53 times. Armenian armed forces opened fire at the Azerbaijani positions from the positions located near the villages of Yusifjanli, Shikhlar, Marzili, Garagashli, Javahirli of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of Khojavand district, Horadiz, Gorgan, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Veysalli and Mehdili of Jabrail district.

Aside from that, the Azerbaijani armed forces were fired at from the positions on nameless heights in the districts of Geranboy, Fuzuli and Khojavand.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
