Azerbaijani army silence Armenian ceasefire aggressors

Over the past 24 hours, Armenian armed forces violated the ceasefire with Azerbaijan 37 times in different locations of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported on July 22.

Armenian Armed Forces opened fire at the Azerbaijani side at the positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces located in the nameless heights and near the village of Gizilhajili of Gazakh region from the positions, located in the Barekamavan village of Armenia`s Noyemberyan region and Berkaber village of Ijevan region.

Armenian Armed Forces opened fire at the Azerbaijani side at the positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces located in the village of Aghdam of Tovuz region from the positions, located in the Chinari village of Armenia`s Berd region.

Azerbaijani Armed Forces also took fire from the positions located at the nameless heights and near the villages of Ashagi Veyselli, Ashagi Seyidahmedli, Asagi Abdurahmanli, Horadiz of Fizuli region, Sarichali, Yusifjanly, Shikhlar, Merzili, Bash Gervend, Shuraabad villages of Aghdam region, Geyarkh village of Terter region, Kuropatkino village of Khodjavend region and Mehdili village of Jabrayil region.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four U.N. Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
