Senior Iranian lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi has underscored the importance of consolidating Iran-Azerbaijan relations and called for an "overhaul" of the bilateral ties between the two neighboring nations.
"Relations with Azerbaijan should be overhauled and the existing problems between the two countries must be resolved," Chairman of Iran's Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi said at a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Baku Mohsen Pak-Ayeen last week, Press TV reported.
"There are numerous commonalities between Iran and Azerbaijan and the (Iranian) public opinion expects good and stable ties with this country," he said.
Boroujerdi also urged the expansion of bilateral parliamentary ties with Azerbaijan and the holding of meetings between the two countries' parliamentary friendship groups and foreign policy committees.
Pak-Ayeen, in turn, noted the growing economic and commercial ties between the two nations.
"There is a promising prospect to the two countries' ties, and plans have been made for taking new strides in this regard," he said
