
The second meeting of the Organizing Committee of the first European Games has been held in Baku chaired by Mehriban Aliyeva, chairwoman of the Committee.
Chairwoman of the Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva praised the Azerbaijani government`s attention to the organization of the first European Games.
The Chairwoman of the Organizing Committee also provided an insight into the preparatory work for the first European Games.
Presenting a general view and a master plan for the athletes’ village at the event, Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov spoke about the work carried out in the Olympic Village.
Mehriban Aliyeva stressed the importance of solving infrastructure problems related to the preparation for the Games, noting that the monitoring of sports facilities had been carried out.
Chairman of the State Committee for Property Affairs Karam Hasanov said measures related to the Olympic Village would be implemented in several stages.
Executive consultant of the working group on European Games Dag Arnot said the cooperation with media outlets would start next week.
Consultant for security of the European Games, a member of the working group on European Games Peter Ashwin said that the planning of the Games, which will last 17 days, will address security issues.
Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov spoke about preparations for a draft action plan on road transport sector, adding 13 projects have been identified.
National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov noted that a systematic approach to security issues will be taken during the events.
Interior Minister Ramil Usubov said the action plan prepared in connection with the European Games is already being implemented and special equipment has already been purchased.
Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration Ali Asadov stressed the importance of fulfilling the tasks immediately.
Finance Minister Samir Sharifov highlighted financial issues concerning the Games.
Mehriban Aliyeva made closing remarks to stress the importance of a broad and close cooperation among all the bodies and agencies involved.
“High-profile sports events are held in Azerbaijan, which is known as a sports country. International specialists appreciate them,” Mehriban Aliyeva said.
The First Lady noted that Azerbaijan would adequately fulfill a task of hosting the first European Games and will ensure excellent organization of the event.
The first-ever European Games will be held in Baku in June 2015. The Organizing Committee set up this January includes members of the National Olympic Committee, athletes and representatives of government agencies.
