
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov attended the American Jewish Committee’s Annual Global Forum in Washington.
Elmar Mammadyarov informed the participants about Azerbaijan’s decisive role as the provider
of energy resources and the close relations between Azerbaijan and Israel.
The Minister said Azerbaijan and Israel are united by close friendly relations going beyond the diplomatic relations. According to him, there has never been anti-Semitism in the history of Azerbaijan, where the great majority of population is Muslims, and that Azerbaijan is the native land of about 35 000 Jews.
Mammadyarov mentioned that he had recently paid the first visit to Israel, also visited Palestine. Elmar Mammadyarov said that Azerbaijan’s experience in the peaceful coexistence of Muslims, Christians and Jews can play the role of “international bridge” in establishing peace between Israel and Palestine.
The American Jewish Committee’s Annual Global Forum, which is held by the Jewish lobby in the US every year, is attended by representatives of more than 60 countries. At the plenary sessions this year, the participants will discuss topics on the consequences of Arab Spring, immigration, integration and identity, other issues.
Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg and Foreign Minister of Poland Rados?aw Sikorski were also participated in the opening ceremony of the forum, who addressed the participants.
The US Secretary of State John Kerry is also expected to attend the forum.
It has to be mentioned that Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the U.S. Elin Suleymanov has also addressed the closing session of ACCESS forum.
