22 May 2013 [15:34] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani peacekeepers will stay in Afghanistan after 2014. Azerbaijan is one of eight countries that have confirmed their presence in Afghanistan after 2014, Head of Azerbaijan's Mission to NATO, Ambassador Khazar Ibrahim told reporters on Wednesday.

He said after 2014, Azerbaijan will reduce its contingent in Afghanistan. The name and essence of the mission will change. A concept of operations will be prepared, the diplomat said.

Khazar Ibrahim also said that Azerbaijan's airspace is open for transportation of goods to Afghanistan and the country is not going to close it. Some 35 per cent of cargo for Afghanistan is transported through Azerbaijan. It is also planned to create wide opportunities for the transportation of goods by land and sea routes - by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and through the Alat sea port.
