21 May 2013 [16:15] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan and Iran have been holding high level talks for the last few months, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi said, Press TV reported.

He noted that friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Iran continue to boost.

"There have been some misunderstandings in the past, as some individuals do not want the Iran-Azerbaijan relations to expand," Araqchi said.

"Recently our security forces detained two Azerbaijani nationals, and the interrogation has been conducted. We have announced all charges to the Azerbaijani government, and after questioning, as a sign of good will, they were released," Araqchi noted.

Regarding the detained Iranian national Mikail Kazemi, who was in Azerbaijan with Iranian delegation, Araqchi said the work on this issue is currently being conducted.

"There was a misunderstanding and hopefully it will soon be removed. We are currently working on this issue via diplomatic ways," he said.

Research fellow of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences, orientalist Khalida Khalid and her assistant Shamkhal Huseynov, who were detained in Iran, have been released.

The information on the release of Azerbaijani citizens was confirmed by the Ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen, who told Trend news agency that Khalid and her assistant will be sent to Azerbaijan in the next few days.

Khalida Khalid and her assistant were arrested on April 30 in Tabriz by officers of the Ministry of Information, Security and Intelligence of Iran, the Iranian media reported earlier.
