Azerbaijani and NATO officials met here on Friday in the Alliance`s Political and Partnerships Committee to discuss cooperation under the Partnership for Peace Planning and Review Process (PARP).
They exchanged views on defense reforms held in Azerbaijan, mutual cooperation and compliance with NATO forces. NATO officials praised Azerbaijan`s contributions to operations of the Alliance.
The meeting was attended by officials of Azerbaijani Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs, Defense, Emergency Situations, Communication and Information Technologies, State Border Service, State Service for Mobilization and Conscription, as well as the country`s representation in NATO.
The meeting took place on the basis of results of the NATO expert group`s visit to Azerbaijan in April.
Partnership for Peace Planning and Review Process (PARP) launched in 1995 is to provide a structured basis for identifying partner forces and capabilities that could be available to the Alliance for multinational training, exercises and operations. The PARP also serves as a planning tool to guide and measure progress in defense and military transformation efforts. PARP is open to all PfP partners and, following the review of NATO`s partnerships policy in April 2011, participation in PARP is being opened to all other partners on a voluntary and case-by-case basis subject to NAC approval.
