Co-Chairmen of OSCE-Minsk Group to be in Azerbaijan

08 March 2013 [10:38] - TODAY.AZ
Co-chairmen of Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group Igor Popov of the Russian Federation, Jacques Faure of France, and Ian Kelly of the United States will visit the region in last week of March.

The ambassadors will also visit the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The co-chairmen said they would visit the region and discuss the steps towards the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with the Presidents of the two countries.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan in 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council`s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
