Mirvari Fataliyeva talks on brutal attack of Armenians in France National Assembly

“Once again I have witnessed endless hatred of Armenians towards Azerbaijanis”, said Mirvari Fataliyeva, head of the “Azerbaijan House” in Paris who faced brutal attacks of Armenians.

As far as we know, you are from Gubadli region occupied by Armenians. So, this is the second time you face Armenian violence?

- Yes I`m originally from Gubadli region. I was born in Khanlig village. Armenians who have started a war against Azerbaijani people have attacked my village on 31 August 1993. Under the violent attacks of the Armenian armed forces my family had to escape from the village to Baku and live as IDP`s in our own Motherland. Then, I have applied to French department of Azerbaijan University of Languages. After graduation in 2002, I continued my education in France. Now I live in Paris.

Why did you decide to participate in the Armenians session held at the National Assembly knowing their hatred to the Azerbaijani people?

- I decided to participate in the conference held by French Bureau on Armenian Issues and Security Committee with group of French MPs titled “25 years after Sumgayit events: the current situation and perspectives for Nagorno-Karabakh people” once I heard it. Somehow, I wasn’t concerned as the event was held in the National Assembly. Student Vusal Huseynov and me didn`t even thought that we can face a violence in the building where the laws are adopted. We just thought we can participate there as civil citizens in the democratic country, ask questions about Azerbaijan and to see what they tell about “Sumgayit events”. These all were interesting for us. If there will be a chance, we thought we also can give questions. We wanted to acknowledge that Azerbaijan looks forward to resettle Nagorno-Karabakh conflict peacefully. But we faced a totally different scene.

How did the incident happen?

- We were late to the conference. That is why everyone gazed us when we entered the salon while all were sitting. It looks that they felt that we are Azerbaijanis. They were gazing till we found a seat. Four people made speech. In those speeches Armenians slandered Azerbaijanis being devoted to their acts, talked about Ramil Safarov issue. We sat quite as there weren’t any discussions or dialogue. Finally, the presenter has called everyone for a Minute of Silence to the “Armenian victims of Sumgayit incidents”. Me and Vusal didn`t stand up protesting the bias and lies made by Armenians. Then, they started shouting and forcing us to stand up. I then recalled that today is the 21st anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy and I stand up to commemorate those victims. When I told this some Armenian grabbed my arm and tried to beat me. Vusal then saved me. I repeated once more this and the Minute of Silence continued. Armenians may be without feeling themselves have commemorated victims of the Khojaly tragedy with that minute of silence.

That man who grabbed me by my arm has reached me again and started slapping me on my face. They have beaten Vusal who tried to help me. They were offending and kicking us. I once more saw endless hatred of Armenians towards Azerbaijanis. We somehow escaped them and went out to the corridor. But we once again entered that saloon while looking for escape. The angered Armenians tried to repeat that scene again and to beat us brutally. One man who was looking at me ironically during the conference has grabbed my hair and didn`t let me to go back to corridor.

What was doing Francois Rosheblua, member of the French delegation to the European Union which considers priority human rights and the rule of the law?

- That man who was gazing me was Francois Roshelbua, who grabbed my hair and slapped me on the face in the end. I didn`t know that MP who detested Azerbaijan although I heard of him for many times. All of the Armenians were attacking Vusal. The Armenians angered as he defended himself. I went out to the corridor once more as they were busy and I entered the nearest room as saw it was opened. Here were members of the Movement for Democratic Unity Party. I called them immediately crying that if you won`t help, the Armenians will kill an Azerbaijani in the next room. I asked them to call the police. I was shocked. They told me to sit down that I am safe now. They have also brought Vusal from Armenians. After a while the gendarme came, as the police can’t enter the building or involve in the incident here. After some minutes we were taken to the gendarmerie. Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to the country Elchin Amirbayov and the employees of the embassy who were in the meeting held on Khojaly tragedy have immediately came there. They made medical expertise and wrote a report.

What can you say about French enforcement forces care into the incident?
- We have complained to the related agencies and have appointed two lawyers. They are already involved in the matter. We will appeal to the public Prosecutor, too.
