Azerbaijan attaches important meaning to the issues of democracy, and the holding of " Oil, Gas and Media" conference happens to be the proof of this fact, the chairman of International Press Institute, the Head of International Press Fund, Umud Mirzayev said to the journalists at the opening of the conference in Baku.

This conference once again proves that the journalists are connected by common values and shows their solidarity with Azerbaijani journalists, he said.

"Oil and Gas field is always in the center of attention for international media outlets, and plays a significant part in presenting important information in this field to the public. Today's conference is a good opportunity to exchange opinions and develop cooperation," Mirzayev said.

IPI underlines the significance of mass media liberty and independence,- the executive director of IPI Alison Bethel McKenzie said.

According to her, mass media plays a key part in the society and a significant part in democratic processes.

"Oil and Gas field requires clarity. Mass media and human rights have to be interconnected," McKenzie said.

Azerbaijan has been known as the country having rich energy resources among post-Soviet countries, and as the initiator of the ongoing large international projects, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Social and Political Department Head Ali Hasanov said at the "Oil, Gas and Media" conference, which opened in Baku today.

Hasanov highly assessed holding an international forum of journalists writing on the topic of oil and gas in Baku.

"The reports on Azerbaijan's role in the energy security of the modern world, its hydrocarbon resources in the development of the region, supplying the Caspian oil and gas through alternative routes to the world markets will be heard at the conference," he said.

"We will inform the participants about Azerbaijan's important role in the world as the country with rich energy resources," he added.

Baku hosts the "Oil, Gas and Media" international conference organized by the International Press Institute and supported by the Azerbaijani State Oil Company today.
