President Ilham Aliyev, Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan get acquainted with Cuma Mosque - UPDATE - PHOTOS

 President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva, Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his spouse Emine Erdogan have today visited the Albanian Temple in Kish village of Sheki.

They were informed that the Temple was built in the 1st century. The thick walls of the Temple are decorated with small windows.

The facility was reconstructed in 2003. The project was implemented with the support of prominent Norwegian ethnographer and adventurer Thor Heyerdahl.

En route from Kish, the Azerbaijani President and the Turkish Premier as well as their spouses visited houses of local residents, where they spoke with the family members and posed together for photographs.

 President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Premier of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan got acquainted with Cuma Mosque and Yukary Caravansary hotel complex in Sheki.

The high guests were informed about the Islamic Madrasa functioning here. The Mosque with 700 square meters total area and 24 meters high minaret had been built in national shebeke style. The tutorial staff of Mosque is both from Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The President and Premier met with the students who presented a sample of Holy Quran to the high guests.

Then, President Ilham Aliyev, his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva, Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his spouse Emine Erdogan acquainted with the Yukhary Caravansary hotel complex of XVIII century built in eastern architectural style. As stated, the Complex includes 300 rooms and basement, covered with national architectural ornaments.

Getting acquainted with the Complex the high guests had a joint dinner here.

President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his spouse Emine Erdogan have today acquainted with the Place of Sheki Khans, Azerbaijan.

The Presidents and their spouses were informed about the history of the Palace of Shaki Khans. As stated, the Palace was a summer residence of Shaki Khans. It features decorative tiles, fountains and severalstained-glass windows. The exterior is decorated with dark blue, turquoise and ochre tiles in geometric patterns and the murals were coloured with tempera and are inspired by the works of Nizami Ganjavi.
Along with its pool and plane trees, the summer residence is the only remaining structure from the larger palatial complex inside the Sheki Khans' Fortress, which once included a winter palace, residences for the Khan's family and servants' quarters. It was built in 1797 by Muhammed Hasan Khan and restored between 1952 and 1967.

Measuring thirty-two meters by eight and a half meters on the exterior, the summer residence is a two-story masonry structure elongated on the north-south axis and covered with a wooden hipped roof with long eaves. The layout of both floors is identical; three rectangular rooms are placed in a row, separated by narrow, south-facing iwans that provide access to the rooms. The floors are accessed separately to accommodate their public and private functions. Entered from the south through the two iwans, the ground floor was used primarily by clerks and petitioners. Two stairways attached to the northern façade gave access to the first floor, which was reserved for the khan's family and their guests.
The summer residence is renowned for the lavish decoration of its exterior and interior. Large portions of the residence's façade, including the entire southern elevations of the central halls on both floors, are covered by a mosaic of colored glass set in a wooden latticework (shebeke) that was assembled without nails or glue. Muqarnas hoods crowning the four iwans are highlighted with gold on the lower level and covered with mirror fragments on the first floor. Remaining surfaces on all façades are decorated with floral tile panels and tile mosaics.

President of Azerbaijan and Premier of Turkey walked in the ancient quarters of Sheki, got acquainted with the books written about the history of city, the samples of handicrafts made by Sheki masters.

Azerbaijani President and Turkish Premier talked to the youth of city, and were taken their photography among them. The President and Premier joined the tea party arranged for the high guests.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan have visited a memorial to Turkish soldiers in Shaki.

The Head of State and the Turkish Premier were accompanied by their spouses Mehriban Aliyeva and Emine Erdogan.

The Azerbaijani leader and the Turkish Prime Minister viewed maps and photos showing movement of the Caucasian Islamic Army in Azerbaijan and Dagestan in 1918, as well as Turkish soldiers` cemeteries in Azerbaijan.

The memorial commemorates Turkish soldiers who died while protecting the Azerbaijani people from the Armenian and Bolshevik invasion in early 20th century.

President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and their spouses placed flowers at the monument.

Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Turkey Faig Bagirov and coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute for Turcology Yasin Tunch signed a cooperation protocol on the cooperation on “Turkology project” between the Baku State University and Yunus Emre Institute.

Director of “Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting” Closed Joint-Stock Company Arif Alishanov and General Director of Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) Ibrahim Sahin signed a protocol on cooperation between Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Closed Joint-Stock Company and Turkish Radio and Television Corporation.

Transport Minister of Azerbaijan Ziya Mammadov and Minister of Transport, Seafaring and Connection of Turkey Bineli Yildirim signed a memorandum of understanding on the development of combined freight transportation between Transport Ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Ministry of Transport, Seafaring and Connection of Turkey.

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Ahmad Davudoglu signed a memorandum of understanding on the exchange of diplomats between Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Azerbaijan and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

Minister of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan Kemaleddin Heydarov and Minister of Transport, Seafaring and Connection of Turkey Bineli Yildirim signed an agreement on coordination of search and rescue services between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey.

Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev and Minister of Economy of Turkey Zafer Caglayan signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the technical regulation, standardization, conformity assessment, accreditation and metrology between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey.

The second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council took place here Tuesday with attendance of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Premier of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“Our relations have developed rapidly during the past period. Following our Izmir meeting, important events occurred. We met many times. We signed the TANAP project. Decisions made in Izmir are being executed,” said President Ilham Aliyev in his opening remarks.

“The agenda of our today`s meeting is very comprehensive. Both sides are represented by ministers and they will talk as well,” he said.

The Azerbaijani leader noted that relationship between the two states is developing successfully and expressed assurance the present visit would be a roadmap for the future activity.

“Although, the trade turnover was one billion dollars ten years ago, it now reached 3.5 billion. Of course, we should be satisfied with this,” said Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan in his remarks.

The Premier noted the two countries forge ahead military, political cultural cooperation.
He said TANAP project will ship Azerbaijani gas to Europe.

“I believe the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council will be more effective than the one held in Izmir,” he pointed out.

 President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today met in private with Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan who arrived here on a working visit.

They exchanged views on the cooperation in political, economic, trade, energy, transportation and military-technical spheres between the two states, as well as the solution and prospects of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
