
Spokesman on the foreign policy of CDU/CSU faction in Bundestag Philip Misfelder and chief representative of foreign relations committee Karl-George Wellmann disseminated a statement on illegal conducting of the “presidential elections” in Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
The statement says: “Illegal “presidential elections” held on Thursday in unrecognized “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” cause damage to efforts on peaceful settlement of the conflict. The world community in accordance with the international law recognizes Nagorno Karabakh as integral part of Azerbaijan, embassy of Azerbaijan in Germany said. The position of Germany and the European Union is that solution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict may be solved only peacefully.”
“Neither Germany nor the EU recognize “parliamentary elections” held in Nagorno Karabakh in 2010. Catherine Ashton, high representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy said the structure doesn`t recognize the constitutional and legal frames of the “parliamentary elections” held in Nagorno Karabakh on May 25 2010. Ashton also expressed her attitude to the current illegal “presidential elections.”
“Existence of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict over the last 20 years is a ground for reconsideration of its settlement and encouragement of the process of finding a solution. The peaceful settlement of the conflict and normalization of the relations would be a stimulus to economic and public progress in all region of the South Caucasus.”
OSCE Minsk Group, NATO and UN must give much attention to solution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict.”
“Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and seven adjacent regions were occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces. In 1993 the UN Security Council condemned occupation of Azerbaijani territories. The OSCE Minsk Group has been functioning since 1992 to solve the conflict. But, in spite of the 20-year mediatory efforts the attempt to change the status-quo did not yield any results.”
