President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva attend seeing-off ceremony of Azerbaijani Olympic sportsmen - UPDATE - PHOTOS

A seeing-off ceremony has been held today for Azerbaijani sportsmen to represent the country at the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, officially the Games of the XXX Olympiad in the United Kingdom.

President of Azerbaijan and the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva participated in the ceremony.

Photo banners reflecting Olympic Movement in Azerbaijan were placed in the foyer of the Heydar Aliyev Center.

Ceremony attendees greeted warmly the Head of State and First Lady of Azerbaijan. After the state anthem of Azerbaijan was performed, the Azerbaijani President made his remarks at the ceremony.

Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sport Azad Rahimov addressed the event.

The ceremony also featured speeches by head coach of Azerbaijan freestyle wrestling team Firdovsi Umudov, member of the Paralympics athletics team Huseyn Hasanov and member of the boxing team Vatan Huseynov.

Vatan Huseynov read out the text of Olympic oath.

Olympic sportsmen kissed the national flag of Azerbaijan.

President Ilham Aliyev wished every success to sportsmen. The Head of State posed for photographs with sportsmen.
