
Azerbaijani Embassy in Moscow hosted a reception to celebrate the 94th anniversary of Azerbaijani Armed Forces Day. The event was attended by military attaches of the embassies of several countries accredited in Russia, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry, as well as Azerbaijani Diaspora.
Made a welcoming speech the military attaché of the Azerbaijan Republic in the Russian Federation Tofig Salmanov spoke about the history and development of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, which originate from the last century, when the government of the first in the East Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on June 26, 1918, decided to create a Special Corps. This decision was a legal justification for the establishment of the National Army. In accordance with May 22, 1998 decree of then President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev June 26 was declared Day of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. Since then this public holiday is celebrated every year in Azerbaijan.
"Thanks to the close attention of the President Ilham Aliyev, today, our army is strong, efficient, equipped and upgraded in accordance with international standards," he said.
Salmanov also drew attention to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which resulted in occupation of 20 percent of the country’s territory and over million of refugees and internally displaced persons.
According to Salmanov, our country is negotiating a peaceful resolution of conflict as part of the OSCE Minsk Group, but so far there are no results.
The military attaché also spoke about Azerbaijan’s cooperation with various international organizations in the military field, participation in the NATO’s program "Partnership for Peace", as well as the bilateral military cooperation with many countries, including the Russian Federation.
