Iran confirms arrest of two Azerbaijani citizens

Iran's Foreign Ministry confirmed arrest of two Azerbaijani citizens, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told Trend on Friday.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry's response to Azerbaijan's note, two Azerbaijani citizens Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizade are accused of attempting to commit a crime, Abdullayev said.

According to Abdullayev, Azerbaijan's Consulate General in Tabriz appealed to local authorities demanding to meet with the detained fellow citizens.

Two Azerbaijani citizens have disappeared in Iran since May 2.

Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry earlier sent three notes to Iran's Foreign Ministry demanding to clarify the situation with the missing fellow citizens.
