Azerbaijan-EU hold political talks

Regular political dialogue between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the European Union at the EU’s political and security committee level was held in Brussels, Azerbaijan’s mission to EU said.

Azerbaijani side was represented by Emin Eyyubov, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Belgium, and Head of Mission to the EU. The European Union was represented by the mentioned Committee chief, Ambassador Oloph Skoog and EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Philippe Lefort.

Mr. Skoog said that Azerbaijan with its global and regional importance is a strategic partner of EU and the Organization is keen in development of bilateral ties.

Ambassador Emin Eyyubov highlighted on the negotiation processes related to settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, stressing necessity of resolution of the problem within the international legal norms and in the frame of territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. “The European Union has to take serious measures to this effect”, he underlined.

EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Philippe Lefort expressed concern with delay of talks and shared his views. Ambassador Eyyubov gave detailed information on socio-economic reforms conducted in the Republic, discussing further development of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
