Changes in financing of political parties to promote development of civil society in Azerbaijan

Financing of political parties from the state budget will play important role in the further development of civil society in Azerbaijan.

This was stated at meeting with co-reporters of Monitoring Committee of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Azerbaijan Pedro Agramunt de Mora and Josef Debono Grech with representatives of the political parties represented in Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan.

The assistant to the executive secretary of party “Yeni Azerbaijan” (YAP), MP Mubariz Gurbanly gave detailed information on activity of the Milli Majlis, its structure, international relations. He noted that in parliament 11 political parties are presented, also the normal and equal rights for their activity has been created. Participation of these parties in parliament makes positive impact on lawmaking process, Gurbanly said.

At meeting, representatives of other political parties gave detailed information on integration of Azerbaijan to Europe, about the democratic reforms realized in the country. Participants of discussions condemned aggressive policy of Armenia against Azerbaijan, highly assessing the decision of the Council of Europe on support of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Along with it, it was expressed regret because the Council of Europe hasn't undertaken any sanctions against aggressor, neither made corresponding decision in this connection.
