Azerbaijani FM holds meetings in Netherlands

Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Uri Rosenthal gave a working dinner in honor of Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov, who is on the official visit to this country, at the Johan de Witt-huis, the special guest residency.

Mammadyarov underlined the rapid economic development in Azerbaijan, which is a reliable partner of Europe in the field of energy security. He urged for intensification of political dialogue between Azerbaijan and the Netherlands.

Touching upon the problem of regional security, the minister said that Armenia occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories, committed ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis, refused to fulfill the resolutions of the UN Security Council and other international organizations. He said Azerbaijan supported the solution of the conflict on the basis of the international law.
Minister Uri Rosenthal said the Dutch society has always accepted Azerbaijan as the country, which is known for its achievements in the world, which organized Eurovision 2012 in a high level and was successfully represented in Floriade 2012 international exhibition in the Netherlands.

Elmar Mammadyarov met with Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands, minister of economy, agriculture and innovation Maxime Verhagen. Mammadyarov underlined the importance of cooperation between the countries in the fields of energy, non-oil sector, alternative energy sources and emergency. He invited Verhagen to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan. Verhagen said his country is interested in the development of economic relations with Azerbaijan and urged for further extension of cooperation.

Elmar Mammadyarov also met with the chairwoman of the Dutch parliament’s foreign relations committee Nebahat Albayrak, members of the commission de Roon, Ormel, Ten Broeke. He said Azerbaijan is interested in the development of relations between the parliaments and recently new inter-parliamentary working group has been established. He called the Dutch parliamentarians to closer cooperation with Azerbaijanis MPs within the framework of PACE.
Minister Mammadyarov answered the questions of the parliamentarians about the Azerbaijan’s work in the UN Security Council and exchanged views on the Middle East developments.
