Azerbaijan`s Republic Day marked in Vienna

The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Vienna has organized an official banquet to mark the country`s public holiday - Republic Day.

The banquet was attended by officials, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Vienna, representatives of international organizations, businessmen and Azerbaijanis living in the city.
Addressing the event Azerbaijani ambassador Galib Israfilov spoke of the history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

He also highlighted the difficult situation that Azerbaijan faced after it regained independence in 1991. The ambassador said national leader Heydar Aliyev`s wise, courageous and farsighted policy saved Azerbaijan from difficulties and tensions at that time. The diplomat added President Ilham Aliyev successfully continues the national leader`s policy.

Speaking at the event former chairman of the Austrian Supreme Court Johann Reshut congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the public holiday. He said Austria and Azerbaijan had a lot in common. The participants at the event saw the final of the Eurovision-2012 song contest.
