Azeri official to joins European Association of Judges meeting

Chairman of the Common Court Judges Public Union Aladdin Jafarov participated in an annual congress of the European Association of Judges (EAJ) in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on May 10-13.

The meeting attended by the members of the European Association of Judges was chaired by Mr. Gerhard Reissner, First Vice President of the E.A.J. He informed the attendees on execution process of the court judgements accepted at the last congress in Istanbul, Turkey, as well as international events, cooperation with the International organizations and activity of the working group.

The delegations discussed new challenges of the judges faced with nowadays. Resolutions concerning different countries (Hungary, Greece) were adopted. Aladdin Jafarov spoke of the judicial reforms being successfully realized in Azerbaijan thanks to President Ilham Aliyev`s initiative, as well as activity of the judicial system and courts in the country.

The event also focused on issues concerning independence of judges in the European countries, their status, social problems. The next congress of the Association will take place in Switzerland in 2013.

The International Association of Judges was founded in Salzburg (Austria) in 1953 as a professional, non-political, international organization, grouping not individual judges, but national associations of judges.

The main aim of the Association is to safeguard the independence of the judiciary, as an essential requirement of the judicial function and guarantee of human rights and freedom.
