India,Azerbaijan boost coop

Azerbaijani ambassador to India Ibrahim Hajiyev met Mrs. Meira Kumar, chairperson of the Lower House of Indian Parliament, Lok Sabha.

Mrs. Kumar told of close historical and cultural ties between the two countries and achievements gained in establishment of democracy. The chairperson congratulated Azerbaijan on election as a non-permanent member to the UN Security Council. She recalled meeting of Indian minister of trade and industry, chairman of Azerbaijan-India joint intergovernmental commission on economics, sciences and technology with President Ilham Aliyev.

Kumar said the government of India is keen to cooperate with Azerbaijan in all fields, especially in oil and gas sector. She stressed a necessity of widening interparliamentary ties and expressed her hope that speaker of Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov would visit India.

Hajiyev congratulated Kumar on the 60th anniversary of the Indian Parliament. He said commodity turnover between the two countries reached 418 million dollars in 2012 against 411 millions in 2012. The diplomat thanked the government and parliament of India in supporting Azerbaijan`s sovereignty and territorial integrity on Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
