Turkmenistan attaches great importance to ties with Azerbaijan

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov received First Deputy Chairman of Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ziyafat Askerov, the Turkmen government said on Saturday.

"Turkmenistan attaches great importance to strengthening and developing the traditional friendly relations with neighboring countries, including - Azerbaijan," Berdymuhamedov said.

During the conversation the sides exchanged views on key aspects of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani partnership, "which opens considerable potential for the most favorable opportunities to build productive interaction in the priority areas of the two countries."

"The sides paid particular attention to the inter-parliamentary relations, which plays an important role in the progressive development of international dialogue and cultural cooperation call for the comprehensive strengthening and expanding of the fruitful relations in the field of science, education and culture," the media said.

They also expressed confidence that bilateral relations will develop in the best traditions of friendship and good neighborliness in the name of the common good.

The two states are neighbors and regularly hold talks to define the legal status of the Caspian Sea, which is rich in hydrocarbon and biological resources.

Azerbaijan can become natural gas transit country for Turkmenistan to export this type of fuel to the European market in the case of construction of the Trans-Caspian pipeline, which will allow markets to diversify energy sources.
