
The State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan and Iranian border police disarmed a trans-border criminal group engaged in drug trafficking over Azerbaijan-Iran border, SBS press center told APA.
The measures taken in April revealed that the group members secretly brought drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan. Two Azerbaijani members of the group were detained as a result of measures taken by the SBS. During the research it was identified that two Azerbaijani citizens – resident of Masalli region Ahmadov Zamin Gulhuseyn and Mammadova Hamayil Mammad are taken hostage in Alirzabad village of Parsabad county of Iran instead of drugs brought from Iran to Azerbaijan. Their health and life are in danger.
The corresponding organization of the Iranian border police was informed on April 27. Holding joint measures to identify, found and disarm the group members, to release Azerbaijani citizens from hostage, was coordinated with the opposite side.
Four Iranian members of the group were detained as a result of measures taken by Iranian corresponding organizations. Azerbaijani citizens taken hostage were delivered to Azerbaijan on May 3.
The Iranian side arrested the other 4 members of the group. In general, 7 people were detained. The ammunitions and technological tools, many drugs, antiquities, 5 vehicles, 3 mobile phones and the other material proofs were seized from them. A drug and one member of the group were also detained during that period.
The joint measures are being continued.
