Opposition fails to unit as proposal on merger loses its validity

11 May 2012 [11:17] - TODAY.AZ
The proposal on merger, sent to the opposition parties, lost its validity, chairman of the Azerbaijani Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu told Trend today.

One can say that "Musavat" and Azerbaijani Popular Front Party parties abandoned this proposal, Jalaloglu said.

Earlier, "Karabakh" political bloc, which unites Azerbaijani Democratic Party and "Umid" parties, sent a letter to political parties to merge. The importance of the opposition's merger was stressed.

"I removed this issue from the agenda," he said. "If one of sides responds negatively, the positive response of other parties does not make sense. That is, the issue of creating a half-hearted opposition center raises once again. It is therefore advisable to leave the situation as it is today."

Regarding the meetings within the new format of the "five" opposition parties, Jalaloglu stressed that there is not activity.

"Previously, we have agreed that in case of important issues of one of the five parties' initiative, a meeting will be held," he said. "We have not received any initiative from the parties. I have not made such an initiative because I do not see an urgent issue for discussion."

He added that "five" parties do not reflect the idea necessary to the opposition and society today.

Chairman of the Azerbaijani Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu, head of "Musavat" party Isa Gambar, chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli, chairman of the Classic Popular Front Mirmahmud Miralioglu and chairman of the Azerbaijani National Independence Party Yusif Bagirzade attended the "five-sided" meeting. The parties agreed to hold these meetings at least twice a month.
