UNHCR representative meets Azerbaijani IDPs

Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Azerbaijan Dag Sigurdson has met with the IDPs settled in Mingachevir, the fourth-biggest city in Azerbaijan.

UNHCR representative became familiar with the living conditions of the IDPs. He was informed on the problems of the people who were driven out of their native lands as a result of Armenia`s aggression to Azerbaijan.

Sigurdson was told that nearly 20 thousand IDPs currently live in Mingachevir. The Azerbaijani government constructs buildings for IDPs to improve their housing conditions.

The UNHCR representative pointed out that the Azerbaijani government did a lot to improve living conditions and financial situation of IDPs. “I hope that the UNHCR will support the Azerbaijani government`s activity towards improvement of the living conditions of the refugees and IDPs, expand the cooperation,” he added.
