Azerbaijan guarantees maximum protection of Armenian delagtion in Baku

The Azerbaijani government has ensured the full protection of the Armenian delegation participating at the 28th European regional conference of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the 37th session of the European Commission on Agriculture, Armenian deputy minister of Agriculture Armen Poghosyan told journalists on Thursday.

He said the delegation is to hold meetings with all the members of the organisation as part of the agenda. "We study some projects on food security and cooperation in the field of agriculture in the South Caucasus region within the FAO," Pogosyan said.

The conference taking place in Baku attracted a record number of delegates from 46 countries.

The FAO plays a leading role in the international activity directed to fight hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all countries meet on an equal basis to discuss agreements and conduct policy discussions.

The organisation helps developing countries and those with a transit economy to modernise and improve the methods of agriculture, forestry and fishery. FAO was established in 1945 focuses on the development of rural areas, where 70 per cent of the world's poor people facing starvation live.

The FAO includes 191 member states, two associate members and one organisation, the European Union.
