Azerbaijan-Morocco relations mulled

Azerbaijani ambassador to Morocco Sabir Agabayov has met the country`s new appointed culture minister Mohammed Amine Sbihi on Monday. During the meeting, Agabayov handed over congratulatory letter of Azerbaijani culture and tourism minister Abulfas Garayev to Moroccan minister.

The ambassador briefed the Moroccan minister on the history and culture of Azerbaijan, as well as Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He thanked the Moroccan government for supporting Azerbaijan`s stand on this problem.

He said his country supports Morocco on the Western Sahara issue and official Rabat backs Azerbaijan on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The diplomat praised Azerbaijan-Morocco cooperation within international organizations.

He noted the election of Azerbaijan and Morocco as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council would give impetus to development of cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. Agabayov underlined after opening of the Moroccan embassy in Azerbaijan in 2006, the Days of Culture of Azerbaijan and Morocco were held in both countries. Mr. Sbihi thanked the Azerbaijani speaker for congratulations and asked the ambassador to convey his greetings.

The Moroccan minister spoke of his country`s political relations with Azerbaijan. He underlined the importance of expansion of Azerbaijan-Morocco cooperation in other spheres. The minister also hailed cooperation between Azerbaijan and Morocco within the UN and OIC and thanked the government of Azerbaijan in supporting its stand in the Western Sahara conflict.
He expressed assurance that Azerbaijan-Morocco relations would further continue.


At the end of the meeting, the Moroccan minister were handed over books about history, geography, tourism opportunities as well as about Nagorno-Karabakh published in Arabic and English.
