'Venice Commission's some proposals based on inaccurate information'

It is possible to discuss the Venice Commission's proposals on the NGO bill, Chairman of the Council of State Support fpr NGOs under the Azerbaijani President, MP Azay Guliyev told Trend today.

The Venice Commission representatives will arrive in Baku on April 19.

The discussion will be held in the council on April 20, Guliyev said.

He said that several proposals of Venice Commission are based on inaccurate information and do not reflect today's realities.

The Venice Commission's proposal to simplify NGOs registration for it to be done not only in the capital, but also in the regions, can be regarded as progressive, MP said. The Venice Commission also proposes to determine the specific date of NGOs registration is not more than 30 days.

Guliyev said that the policy toward NGOs in Azerbaijan aims for the civil society to be strengthened and developed, not to have any problems for the development of NGOs and the legislation to constantly develop.

"Our policy is transparent, clear and focused on supporting the civil society," he said. "If there are any technical problems, certain areas should be improved."

The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe will express its opinion on the amendments and additions made by Azerbaijan to the law on "NGOs", the official website of the commission said.

The report, prepared by the Venice Commission and the expert committee on the law, will be presented at the conference on April 19-20. Iceland representative Herdis Thorgeirsdottir will attend the conference from the Venice Commission.

The European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) is the Council of Europe's advisory body on constitutional matters.

Established in 1990, the commission has played a leading role in the adoption of constitutions that conform to the standards of Europe's constitutional heritage.
