'Karabakh conflict is major obstacle to peace and security in region'

16 April 2012 [08:27] - TODAY.AZ
The International Young Democrat Union has adopted a resolution on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at its meeting in Beirut, Lebanon. The issues on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict were included in the agenda of the meeting, which brought together representatives of 127 organizations from 80 countries.

Speaking to the event, Azerbaijani delegates said Armenia continued to disgrace UN Security Council`s four resolutions demanding an unconditional and immediate withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan`s occupied lands. “This is a major obstacle to peace and security in the region.”

They noted over million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced as a result of Armenia`s aggressive policy. The authors of the resolution called the conflicting sides to solve the negotiation peacefully and constructively, to change the status quo and to promote trust and cooperation between the countries` people.

The participants also noted that UN, European Union and Council of Europe should be strengthening the efforts on peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the seven adjacent regions and to fulfil the resolution within principles of international law.
