Baku to host GUAM meeting

National Coordinators will discuss cooperation prospects of GUAM on April 9-10 in Baku, Secretariat of the organization told Trend.

National Coordinators of member countries - Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, as well as Secretary General of GUAM will discuss the programs and projects implemented within the organization.

GUAM was established by post-Soviet countries in 1997 during the EU presidential summit in Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization, and left four years later. A decision was made to announce GUAM as an international organization under the new name, "Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM," at the organization's first summit in Kiev in 2006.

Azerbaijan has been chairing the organization since Jan. 2012.
