'Azerbaijan-Moldova political relations strengthen'

President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti has met Azerbaijani ambassador to the country Namig Aliyev. Timofti praised the current level of Moldova-Azerbaijan relationship. He said relations between the two countries were based on the principle of mutual understanding.

According to the President, Azerbaijan-Moldova political relations have been strengthening since the beginning of the current year. He also underscored the necessity of expansion of bilateral economic and humanitarian cooperation.

On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict the Moldovan leader said his country supports Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity. Nicolae Timofti also asked the ambassador to convey his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev as he congratulated him for his election as President of Moldova.

For his part, ambassador Aliyev said he would spare no efforts to contribute to strengthening Azerbaijan-Moldova relations. The diplomat praised the fact that relationship between Azerbaijan and Moldova had reached the level of strategic partnership. The ambassador also stressed the importance of high-level reciprocal visits in development of bilateral cooperation.
Ambassador Aliyev described the so-called “presidential elections” in the occupied territories of

Azerbaijan as an effort of Armenia to maintain the existing status-quo. He called these “elections” as illegal. The diplomat also handed over the book “Ilham: Portrait of a President” to the Moldovan leader.
