
European Union members share common values - democracy, freedom of press, human rights, civil society development, Azerbaijani MP Ali Huseynli said on Tuesday. He submitted for discussion a report by the Committee of Political Affairs, Human Rights and Democracy of Euronest PA at a plenary meeting of the organization, held in Baku.
"Let our report is not perfect, but it's a good start. Both the EU members and the countries of Eastern Partnership can take the recommendations that are appropriate to them. I think that the political committee has the will in this area, and it must constantly keep in view issues related to democracy, development of free press," he said.
During a meeting of the Committee of Political Affairs, Human Rights and Democracy of Euronest PA held in Baku, a report on "Future challenges of democracy, including issues of independent and free media of the countries of Council of Europe and the Eastern Partnership" was adopted.
During the debate MPs from the EU and the Eastern Partnership expressed their views on the report. It was noted that the most difficult thing is not to change laws and but to change attitudes of people. Deputies noted that the issues of democracy, human rights are always in the spotlight of Euronest.
The second session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly opened in Baku on Monday.
Meetings of a standing committee, working group on Belarus, as well as the plenary session are being held at the session.
Documents prepared by committees, together with supplements and amendments to them, to be adopted as a resolution are discussed.
The EU delegation, national delegations of Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and Armenia attend the Baku session.
Euronest inter-parliamentary union includes Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
