Azerbaijan, Columbia eye coop

Azerbaijani ambassador to Mexico with concurrent accreditation to Columbia Ilgar Mukhtarov has made a working visit to Columbia. During the visit Mukhtarov met top officials of the country`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ministers of culture and tourism, trade, ICT, as well as members of Senate and House of Representatives.

The talks in the meetings focused on prospects for strengthening political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Columbia, opportunities for economic relations, legal basis for expansion of trade cooperation. They also exchanged views on development of cooperation within international organizations, including UN Security Council.

At a meeting with culture minister of Columbia they discussed organizational issues of Azerbaijani Culture Days to be held in the country in the near future.

The ambassador also addressed the Columbian Senate to speak of Azerbaijan`s relations with regional countries, Armenia`s aggressive policy against Azerbaijan and Khojaly genocide.
The diplomat discussed with members of the House of Representatives expansion of relations between legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and Columbia.

The ambassador also visited the Network Fund on punishment for sexual violence against children. The diplomat praised the activity of the Fund. On behalf of the Azerbaijani government he donated computers to the Fund.

Mukhtarov also made a report at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was attended by teachers and students of the Academy, officials of the ministry and representatives of the diplomatic corps.

The ambassador spoke of Azerbaijan-Columbia relations, foreign policy, economic potential, history and culture of his country and Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
