First Lady of Kyrgyzstan visits Museum of Modern Art in Baku - UPDATE

The first lady of Kyrgyzstan Raisa Atambayeva has today visited Sehrli Ilmeler (Magic Stitches) gallery owned by Azerilma Ltd, a carpet weaving company.
The guest was briefed on the carpet weaving, one of the oldest and most traditional forms of art in Azerbaijan.

For centuries Azerbaijan had been a country of various handicrafts, particularly carpet-making. Azeri carpets adorn many museum and private collections in the world.

The first lady was informed that Azerilma Ltd. was established in order to revive and enable the further development of the traditional Azerbaijani carpet-weaving art which has materially and spiritually enriched the world culture with its unique samples of carpets. At the same time Azerilma contributes to the popularization of this unique art through its carpet sales organized worldwide. The company commenced its activity in 1996. The professional staff of Azerilma Ltd. comprises 350 people. There are many designers, arts critics, carpet-weavers, dyers and other specialists amongst them. Products of Azerilma were awarded with the prizes and diplomas of the exhibitions held in US, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and Russia.

For its activity, the Company was awarded the European Quality Award of the “United Europe” and “Leaders of the 21st Century” image programs run by the European Business Assembly.

The first lady was presented with keepsakes. Raisa Atambayeva signed the guest book.

First Lady of Kyrgyzstan Raisa Atambayeva has today visited the Museum of Modern Art in Baku. The guest was informed that the Museum was established at the initiative of Azerbaijan`s First Lady, president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.

First Lady of Kyrgyzstan was told that the exposition had included best works by Azerbaijani painters and sculptors since the second half of the 20th century. The guest viewed the works by renowned Azerbaijani artists Sattar Bahlulzade, Beyukaga Mirzazade, Elmira Shahtakhtinskaya, Tahir Salahov, Omar Eldarov and Nadir Abdurrahmanov.

The Museum`s collection also features works by European artists including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Marc Chagall. Atambaeva was presented the museum`s catalogue. The First Lady of Kyrgyzstan signed the Museum`s guestbook.
