President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that Azerbaijan- Kyrgyzstan relations had great future - UPDATE - PHOTOS

Following a ceremony of signing the Azerbaijan-Kyrgyzstan documents, Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Almazbek Atambayev of Kyrgyzstan held a joint press conference. The Presidents made a joint press statement.

President Ilham Aliyev said the fact that Almazbek Atambayev had made one of his official visits to Azerbaijan was an indicator of friendship and fraternity. The Head of State noted the visit would open a new page in relations between the two countries. President Ilham Aliyev also spoke of historical friendship between the Azerbaijani and Kyrgyz peoples.

The Azerbaijani President recalled his previous meeting with Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambayev. President Ilham Aliyev also stressed the importance of humanitarian cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan.

He noted there were great opportunities to elevate the two countries` relations to the level of partnership.

The Azerbaijani leader also underlined the importance of the documents signed during the current visit of his Kyrgyz counterpart. He added the number of documents signed during the current visit exceeds the number of documents signed between the two countries over the past 20 years. The President expressed hope that relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan had great future. President Ilham Aliyev pointed out the two countries had an active cooperation on regional and bilateral issues.

“We support initiatives to strengthen the Turkic peoples` unity in the future,” President Aliyev said. President Almazbek Atambayev said he was proud to make his first official visit to Azerbaijan as a head of state. He said the documents signed between the two countries would contribute to development of relationship.

President Atambayev expressed confidence that relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan would continue to boost. He also said Baku was becoming more and more beautiful. The Kyrgyz President said he was pleased with Azerbaijan`s winning the Eurovision Song Contest.

President Atambayev also stressed national leader Heydar Aliyev`s role in development of Azerbaijan. He added the national leader`s policy was being continued successfully. Following their statements the two presidents responded to questions from journalists.

After meeting in private presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Almazbek Atambayev of Kyrgyzstan have been joined by their delegations for an expanded meeting. President Ilham Aliyev said the visit by the Kyrgyz leader demonstrated how much importance was attached to the development of the bilateral relations.

“I`m confident that our relations have beautiful future. Today we have already exchanged views on the bilateral relations, regional political issues.”

The Azerbaijani leader stressed the importance of his Kyrgyz counterpart`s visit. “This is an opportunity to once again familiarize oneself with Azerbaijan after a long break. And the most important is to explore ways of developing our bilateral relations, which entered a very promising stage.”

“I hope your visit will be a success, and contribute to bringing our people closer to each other,” the Azerbaijan President added. Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev stressed the importance of “elevating our relations to a very new level”.

He praised Azerbaijan`s development: “I`m happy and proud that Azerbaijan has changed so much. I was here 21 years ago. And yesterday and today I saw that Azerbaijan has become completely another. This is because unlike us, you are lucky in terms of presidents. You have had good foundations since 1993, and it is continuing today, so Azerbaijan is developing, prospering.”

The Kyrgyz leader also hailed Azerbaijan`s international image.

President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev has today been given an official welcome to Azerbaijan. A guard of honor was lined up for the Kyrgyz President at the square decorated with the national flags of the two countries.

President Almazbek Atambayev and his spouse Raisa Atambayeva were welcomed by Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

The Presidents inspected a ceremonial Guard of Honor as an orchestra played the national anthems of Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani state and government officials were introduced to President Almazbek Atambayev, while members of the Kyrgyz delegation to President Ilham Aliyev. The presidents and their spouses posed for photographs.

President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev has today arrived in Azerbaijan for an official visit. A guard of honor was lined up for the Kyrgyz President at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport decorated with the national flags of the two countries.

President Almazbek Atambayev was welcomed here by First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov and other officials. The Kyrgyz leader and First Deputy Premier Yagub Eyyubov had a brief meeting in the airport`s VIP room.
